- The Conservation International-Higaonon Canopy Walk, an eco-adventure showcase located more than 1,000 m. up Mt. Lara, in Sitio Magbais, Brgy. Mat-i, was designed and built in April 1993 by Canadian John Kelson. St amidst luxuriant forest cover, it consists of two observation platforms constructed within the forest canopy atop two adjacent trees 30 yards apart, 160 ft. up and connected by a rope bridge of steel cable with orange ropes and nylon ropes as handholds. A would-be Canopy Walker must first register with the Department of Tourism Regional Office in Cagayan de Oro City. The De Oro Mountaineers Club will then assign you a trained guide and a porter. To get there, you have to make a two-hour uphill trek, through the sometimes slippery forest until you reach the peak which is the Jumpstart Area. To crossing the opposite platform, you descend via a cable through the various canopies. You are advised to proceed slowly so as to enjoy the lush scenery. Completing the descent makes one a “Canopy Walker” with a certificate to prove it. A package costs PhP1,1500 (if alone), PhP1,000 (if with a group) and PhP850 for students.
