  • The 400-m. high Calvario Peak, in Brgy. Calvario, is located 15 kms. from the city.  On top is a Chapel of Peace. 
  • The modern Cathedral of St. Elizabeth of Portugal was built by former Bishop Jose Ma. Querexeta. 
  • Plaza Rizal, located between the old capitol site and the cathedral, has a relief map of the province, a dancing fountain, an open stage and a statue of Rizal.
  • The old and imposing Kaun Purnah Mosque is located beside a Muslim village of stilt houses.  
  • The Menzi Agricultural Plantation, located 4 kms. from the town, on the road to Maluso, is now a cooperative.  It has plantations of rubber trees (the first in the country and the country’s leading producer of world- class rubber), coffee, black pepper and African oil palm.

  • Balagasan Falls, in Brgy. Balagtasan, is the biggest in the province and is the site of the Basilan mini-hydro plant.

  • Tabiawan Falls (Brgy. Tabiawan).
  • Malamawi Island, separated from the city and the main island by a 1-KM.wide channel, is lined by mangroves and houses on stilts.  It has a lighthouse, a white sand beach and a lake with wild ducks.  During World War II, the Japanese established a garrison in the island where they planted the still existing thorny Napier trees.  The island is also the final resting place of the Badjaos and the Samal-Luan-Banguingui people.  Panigayan fishing village is ideal for spearfishing. Its beautiful White Beach is a 1-hr. (4-km.) hike across the island.  It has cottages.
